Crown of Thorns

    2005 | silver, tourmalines

As an instrument of torture the crown of thorns mocks its wearer by mimicking the royal crown and the laurel wreath, but it removes the celebratory meaning by utilizing ignoble materials and causing pain while being worn. This humiliating function is reversed again in this piece as it is made of silver and gemstones and rests comfortably on the head. The instrument of torture is a jewel once again.
